I actually wonder, where the "source released" mentioned there did eventually
go to…
Anyway, I checked out the SVN tag and rebuild the source-release using "mvn
clean package -Papache-release". The resulting file does contain the LICENSE
file.

So if this archive was released somewhere, it does contain the LICENSE.
[~schor], shouldn't this be at https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/uima/
along with the other releases?
Anyway, this underlines that the "releases" on the Github site are actually
*not* our releases, but some "convenience" that Github tries to provide on its
own.
Our source repositories contain the LICENSE file only in a few places. LICENSE,
DEPENDENCIES and NOTICE are added to official release artifacts automatically
during a build. This way, we do not have to maintain them in many places and we
also can hardly forget adding them to releases.
