I don't know if this is an eclipse change or not. If it is, I suppose it could
be fixed by checking for null, and skipping the work. If this is the approach,
it would of course to be good to scan all of our eclipse code to see if this
kind of call sequence occurs in other places, and guard against nulls in those
places, too.
