Git repos typically have *one* master branch. So depending on whether we
consider v2 or v3 the "main" development branch, either v2 should be trunk and
v3 should be a branch (e.g. 3.1.x) or v3 should be trunk and v2 should be a
branch (e.g. 2.10.x).
