Serge Huber created UNOMI-991:
---------------------------------

Summary: Upgrade the GraphQL Java libraries
                 Key: UNOMI-991
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UNOMI-991
             Project: Apache Unomi
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Serge Huber
             Fix For: unomi-3.2.0

h3. Summary

Unomi's GraphQL support still uses an old set of libraries: graphql-java 14,
graphql-java-annotations 8, and extended-scalars 1.0. Newer releases of these
libraries are available and work together as one stack. The goal of this ticket
is to move Unomi to that newer stack for version 3.2.0, so GraphQL stays
maintainable and Dependabot updates are no longer blocked.

This is not a small property bump. The libraries must be upgraded together, and
a few Unomi adapters (especially custom scalars) will need small code updates.
Integration tests for GraphQL should be the main check that the work is done.

h3. Ways to explore
* Move graphql-java, graphql-java-annotations, and
graphql-java-extended-scalars to matching current versions in one change.
* Align related runtime libraries used by the GraphQL feature (for example
java-dataloader) with what the new graphql-java release expects.
* Update Unomi's scalar type helpers so they use the new extended-scalars API.
* Check the Karaf GraphQL feature still installs cleanly with the new bundles.
* Keep the opaque GraphQL request context working for now; a later cleanup
could move to the newer context API if needed.

h3. How to test

Build the GraphQL modules. Run the GraphQL unit tests and the GraphQL
integration tests. Install the GraphQL Karaf feature and smoke-check a simple
query and subscription.
