h3. Summary
Unomi currently uses Apache CXF 3.6.8. A newer 3.6 release is available, but it
could not be included in unomi-3.1.0. CXF's Karaf features bring their own
Jackson libraries. Unomi also pins Jackson for the rest of the runtime. When
those two versions do not match, the OSGi container ends up with more than one
Jackson set, and the integration tests fail while looking up core services.
The goal of this ticket is to move Unomi to a newer CXF 3.6 release for version
3.2.0, and to bring Jackson to a single matching version at the same time. This
should stay on the CXF 3.6 line. A jump to CXF 4 is a larger platform change
and is out of scope here.
h3. Ways to explore
* Compare the Jackson version shipped by the target CXF Karaf features with
Unomi's {{jackson.version}} property.
* Raise Unomi's Jackson pin so it matches what CXF installs, or adjust the CXF
Jackson feature so Unomi keeps one Jackson set.
* Confirm the Karaf feature set still starts cleanly with a single Jackson
version.
* Keep Dependabot from proposing CXF-only bumps until this alignment is done.
h3. How to test
Build Unomi and run the full integration test suite for both Elasticsearch and
OpenSearch. Confirm startup completes in a normal time and that
PersistenceService and related services resolve without class loader errors.
