They started out life as components of "Velocity". A few years back we broke "Velocity" into Engine, Anakia and Texen. However, for backwards compatibility reasons, the embedded Anaki and Texen were simply deprecated in Engine 1.x, not removed. In Engine 2.x, they were removed. All users are certainly encouraged to use the standalone versions.
