Dear Tony, Apologies for the delay in replying to your message! But welcome to the project. As you may have gathered, it can be very active.
>Hi all, > >I am a communications professional, and a business owner who has now >switched to OOo throughout my company. Excellent! So, can I do a case study on your company? :-) I'm totally serious. We always need to document those companies that have switched. It's a huge priority. If you are interested, let me know directly. > >I suggest that the main OOo site is flawed in that it has a somewhat >underpopulated feel to it. For someone to whom the prospect of >ditching something as familiar as MS Office is kind of daunting, it >would be very good to be immediately met with the presence of HUMAN >BEINGS who offer reassurance that it really works, it's good, it'll >all work out OK. okay.... > >I heartily recommend the following:- > >1. Increase the prominence of links to these forums on the main page. >Emphasise that there are 10,000 people in the community. Ah, interesting. By "these forums" you mean the mail lists? We do try to emphasize them, and I think that the proposals that have been made to a better job of that. I think our Support page--which is now officially being redesigned (or about to be, anyway)--might also be a great place to underscore the community part of OOo. > >2. On the very top OOo page have a small space given to a >frequently-refreshing series of headshots and quotes from successful, >real-world users. Like this: www.epmu.org.nz <http://www.epmu.org.nz> Hm. > >3. How about some multimedia content? Voices and talking faces. If for >no other reason, simply to give the whole enterprise a HUMAN feel. Perhaps as a rotation of the homepage graphic. For instance, I very much want to use the ES project's graphic, after voting on the splashscreen: <http://es.openoffice.org/>. I do agree we need to humanize the site; I do not think voices is the way--I invariably turn off the sound when I come across such on websites and I feel they do not really "sell" as "turn off". But there are other areas where we can "humanize" things--like in photos of interview subjects, things like that. Also, it might be interesting to have more of this human stuff on the Support page: after all it is meant for people wanting support on using OOo. > > >Hope I don't offend anyone with these suggestions... on the bright side, >we CAN beat a dancing paperclip! :-) Thanks for the ideas! Would you want to help out with the Suppport page redesign? > >Cheers, > >Tony Sutorius >Unreal Films Ltd >Wellington, New Zealand Cheers Louis --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
