I have a suggestion for the download page: http://website.openoffice.org/tryouts/dcarrera/download/contribute2.html
Basic changes: * The paragraphs are shorter and more succinct. * The ways people can contribute are clearer and easier to skim. * The title is friendlier. * The download button is more prominent. * It allots space for important extras that OOo is lacking and people expect to have. About the extras ---------------- The standard OOo download is very lacking on clipart, templates and stock photos. Though these things are avaiable and free to use (see Docs project) they are just not being added to the OOo download. I guess that one argument is that they don't want to increase the download size if it can be avoided. The alternative I propose here is to make those extras separate downloads. People can decide if they want them, and they provide important additions that would make many people happy: * 540 clip art images (Public Domain, from OpenClipArt.org). * 81 photos (Public Domain, from BurningWell.org). * 22 UG chapters (PDL, from OOAuthors). * 73 templates (LGPL, from Docs, OOExtras and Shoshannah). * Thunderbird email client (sends the user to the Mozilla Tbird page). Adding these links would significantly cut down on the number of people who keep complaining "OOo doesn't have an Outlook equivalent", or who feel OOo doesn't have clip art, templates and photos. It should also reduce the number of questions at the users list. The UG chapters I picked cover, I think, many of the common questions. In all cases, I didn't include everything available. OpenClipArt has 3000 images. I just picked a nice sample of 540. Ditto for the others. I tried to make the samples large enough to be useful but without bloating the download. Each individual package is in the order of 10MB. Thoughts on this?
