What I wouldn't recommend in your "current" version
(https://www.sc40.sfo.collab.net/) are the orange buttons (despite
that's the counter color of blue).

Yeah, they don't look quite right do they? I'm not sure if perhaps the same color orange would look ok with a more finished or polished button style though.

as far as I known. And maybe a small touch of peach.

Also the location of the big news article at the bottom isn't good since
it takes attention away from the essential.

After looking at it, and thinking about it a bit... that design feels more like there are two news articles on there.

 + OO2 2 is out now article
+ Interview with co-founder blub the fish

They both seem like news articles, but perhaps that's because of the sample text.

I'm not sure if we need a list of all the OOo's components on the
homepage... Could the bottom of the page (below the horizontal line) be
a better place for it?

Using exactly the same layout page, I wonder how it would be if the "Interview with co-founder blub the fish" area was replaced with the images from above (Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Writer) with their descriptions there (permanently)? It would make the top news item the main focus when people arrive, being whatever of course we feel is most attention worthy.

Regards and best wishes,

That's all for now from me.
