The problem is that the people who got to vote on the last design where the project leads. In other words, people who are generally not aware of usability, and who did not participate or follow any of the lengthy discussion on usability that led to the proposals. That's why you get the kind of problem we have right now. Because they didn't know to look at usability, they simply picked the page that looked cool. The other design we had, was very carefully done to consider usability. Please see the discussion from January:
