I would also encourage anyone who is interested in the website to seek member status. .....
My understanding is that the process is simple:
Send an email to this list, post your OOo username, and request member status.
Having just gone through this exercise, I can say that it's simpler than that. Go to this page and click on the "Request Project Role" link at the top.
http://website.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMemberList
The only choice at this point is "Observer". Click "Submit Request". Within 24 hours you should get an email saying that your request has been accepted.
If you want another role, such as "Content Developer", I believe you need to request it on the list. There appears to be no way to do it through the website.
