Sorry for being cryptic. I was told that the process had just started.
Ah. Actually, the process started a while ago.
Or, do you feel that it is
best to start with the end product, and collect the data and write
the
specifications later?
We have been gathering spec and ideas for several months. What more
do
you need? If we don't have what we want now, we won't ever. We know
enough. We know our audience and we have a sense of what we want.
Let's do it now.
At the risk of appearing bureaucratic, no final and accepted
specifications have been established that I can find. As a result
page
designers are just taking a shot in the dark, hoping that maybe their
sense of creativity is close to what is needed.
I didn't post to the wiki but can do so. My interest is in making it
easier for users to download OOo and to learn about participating and
to present this powerfully and simply.
At the risk of insulting work already done, most of the criteria and
samples seem sterile, perhaps inviting for an engineer but not
following
established principles that work for "marketing", "sales" or
"volunteer
recruitment".
On the Wiki I tried to nudge people in that direction. It seems
people
missed the point.
<snip>
assurance that a strategic communication plan for the OOo home page,
and
deeper, will be given a fair hearing, I will take a day and write
one in
bullet form for OOo. I will use what we know and/or surmise and
suggest
areas where we really need to know more and how to get it.
I think the time has passed for that. This homepage has a fairly clear
objective, or triad of objectives, and our audience is known. We need
to act now. The designs that have been proffered hare steps but I
think we can finalize the design ideas by the end of this week.
Regarding the strategic plan. I'm all for them and generate them,
too. :-) As does John McCreesh, whose Strategic Marketing Plan (SMP)
has been around now (and is constantly being updated) for several
years. Am cc'ing him here. We also have a list, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
, which feel into disuse.
I am a little confused: shouldn't we be communicating through the Wiki
rather than email?
The wiki has its uses but is not ideal for conversations and not
everyone uses it. It is useful especially for illustrating ideas.
