Hi Joe,
I don't know about the build instructions for OS X, but I would think
it would be similar in process as it is usually a script that
activates the build. The trouble with the OS X would be the patches
and changes that may have to be made that are not part of the
official build as yet.
As for the installation, the OS X version details are not technically
out of date as the OS X Aqua version (the non-X11 version) is still
in beta as far as I am aware. The 3.0beta version is one I recently
downloaded and is available for both Intel and PowerPC, however, the
PowerPC version has to be downloaded from the developer who is
compiling them currently. The url can be seen on my review of the
