Hi Leif,
In earlier releases we have had some problems with some media having
fun releasing OpenOffice.org before the actual release.
I can understand that the official release will be synchronized with
an event in Paris on Monday 13th. Is this confirmed ?
Who will give the 'signal' and how ?
are you subscribed to the closed pr@ list? We there currently work on
the PR which will be ready by the end of next week the latest.
NLC projects then can translate it. On Monday, 13th, the release status
meeting will decide whether we will release RC4 as final or not.
For 2.4, we posted the PR at start of (European) day on the Thursday, to
give the mirrors chance to get the new release. I would expect us to
have the same delay for 3.0, so if we get the go ahead from the Release
Committee on Monday (European) afternoon 13th., then we would release
the PR to announce that 3.0 is available on Thursday 16th.
As you say, this will cause a slight problem with the Paris launch on
the 13th. I believe that the plan is to hand over a 'gold CD' with OOo
3.0 on it to Jean-Paul Huchon as part of the ceremony. No doubt Charles
will be able to make some story such as: "M le President gets his copy
today, the rest of the world will have to wait until Thursday to
download it" ;-)
Of course, if there are any showstoppers in RC4, then Houston, we will
have a problem...
John
