is there something I'm missing? If all else fails, do you publish database
dumps like wikipedia does?

Hi Benson

(you're not subscribed to the website mailing list, so I've copied you on the reply)

What you're looking for is there. Open any OOoWiki page. On the left you see Navigation, Create a book, Toolbox, and sometimes also a section titled In other languages.

The only reason I can think of why you never see a box on the left for creating books is that you're using some Wiki skin other than the OOoWiki skin (this is a user preference setting). If you're using the old Monobook skin... or one of the more simple skins, you could be missing out on functionality that is not supported in these other skins.

Creating a book is fairly simple.

Go to the first page you want to add to a book... click Add wiki page in the Create a book menu on the left.

You will now see two new links: Chow book and Clear book.

You can continue adding pages one by one by browsing to the specific page, or you can click Show book.

If you click Show book, save the book in your user space. Here you can drag/drop pages and add chapter breaks in the book.

You can also directly edit the book after you've saved it by opening the new Wiki page that was created when you saved the book.

For an example of what the book syntax looks like take a look at this public book that was created for the BASIC Guide:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Collections/BASIC_Guide
The structure of the Book file is pretty simple. You can directly edit your personal book (which you saved in your User space) adding pages using the same syntax. This can be faster if you're trying to build larger complex books, and you know the Wiki page names in advance.... it saves you clicking through all the pages one at a time and adding them to the book.

I hope this gets you started with creating your own custom Wiki books.
