Hello all--

This concerns a general JS development issue and isn't directly related
to the OpenOffice website, but since I'm attempting to do something FOR
the OpenOffice web site, here goes...

Does anyone out there have any experience with using "something" for
detecting file existence in JS...specifically to a remote site? I am
aware of the XML HTTP request object but it seems that will ONLY work
for files that are contained *on* the same server that originates the
request. And, apparently, there is something called an FSO object in
MS-land but this only works from MS IE.

Something like opening sockets from JS might work also if anyone has any
experience with anything like that. But only if the lJS library could be
loaded to the server and not something that each client would need to
install.

As always, thank you for any assistance.
