Resources using the timestamp mechanism, e.g. wicket:link or any PackageResource can be cacheable for the maximum duration of one year (based on max value from RFC) since the timestamp reliably omits the cache entries when it changes. Also some parts of caching changed... directives like: Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate are senseless (no-store is implicit when using no-cache, must-revalidate implies the resource could be cached theoretically) and were replaced by simple but effective Cache-Control: no-cache Some parts did not set the Date header which is required for correct expiration of resources, e.g. when using Last-Modified or Expires. Also resources now contain Cache-Control: public so they can be cached by intermediate proxies and some version of Firefox do not cache SSL resources when it's absent. No reason to __not__ cache CSS and JS in SSL in 95% of all use cases *imho* Guess this is enough stuff to write a short wiki article about :-) I will summarize these changes once I am confident they work in all scenarios and no complaints of people tell me different. I am confident this will not happen :-) Overall the caching performance of wicket should be in some cases much better and require less extra work from the developer. Also I did set the "302 temporarily moved" responses to "not cacheable" as proxies like nginx indeed cache server redirects, believe it or not. So server side redirects did not work at all.
