AFAIK you should add a line (or two) in a NOTICE file in the root of
the distribution attributing the image, and ensure that it is picked
up and stuffed into the META-INF during packaging. Similar to the ASF
notice and license files.

    Contains artwork created by ...., licensed under a Creative
Commons 3.0 Attribution Unported license

It is unclear to me if you need to attribute the image in an about
page of your application, which then probably becomes necessary for
downstream users to do as well.
