je vous forward d'autres infos sur le Gsoc bien que je doutes que
certains d'entre nous aient le temps pour s'investir dedans.

 Ciao a tutti,

scrivo in inglese. tanto il contenuto vi interessa solo se parlate inglese ;)

Mario Behling from Freifunk is presenting a Google Summer of Code
 Project at Freifunk Berlin

Here you find the progress of this initiative:
 http://wiki.freifunk.net/Google_Summer_of_Code#Application_Form

 Here interesting bookmarks about GSoC
 http://code.google.com/soc/2008/
 http://code.google.com/soc/2008/faqs.html#0.1_what_is
 http://code.google.com/soc/2008/faqs.html#0.1_program_works

We get into this because one of the proposal is porting OBAMP from
Java to C to embed it in the Freifunk Firmware. And in general we have
a lot of knowledge also on the other ideas.

Within 16 hours (deadline is March 12 at 17:00) they have to submit
 the Application.

Please, if you are interested to be a Mentor (I'm applying to this for
example) contact as soon as possible Mario, so he can insert your name
 into the proposal.

 It works like this.
Freifunk proposes "n" ideas ! For istance 1 idea is the porting of
OBAMP. A list of ideas is on the Freifunk Wiki.
 http://wiki.freifunk.net/Google_Summer_of_Code#Ideas

For each Idea Google chooses to allocate "s" students. For each
student there must be "m" mentors supporting the student, where s =
 2*m

 So 1 student 2 mentors.

Now if google accepts only 1 idea, that 2 mentors are easily to be
found in Berlin, but if many ideas are accepted Freifunk must be
 prepared to have mentors.

Google allocates 5000USD per student. Actually 4500USD will go to the
student and 500USD will go to Freifunk.
Then Freifunk will have to decide how to manage the money and in case
 pay a little the mentors.

So, don't apply as a mentor if your motivation is the money ;)

I hope I made my self clear, and sorry for the little advice.
Get in touch with Mario for further information:

 ciao!

 Saverio
