I guess Activity Dashboard to work you should enable indexing. By default only Message_Tracing.tbox added with indexing. If you want to try the KPI sample please add indxing to streams.properties file of the toolbox and perform the search. Ref [1] & [2]. I'm not quite sure whether Timestamp being indexed by default and can be search with 2.4.0 version.
