Found a workaround :)
I can rather check whether there's any element exists for a given namespace
like below, and perform the respective action.
<filter xmlns:a="https://sample/namespace1" xpath="$body/*/a:*">
...
...
</filter>
Still, would like to know whether the $subject is possible?
