You do not need external hardware, can setup Openshift locally using Docker [1]. The basic requirement is to get WSO2 middleware products running in OpenShift. As a starting point, please get an understanding of how you can deploy a WSO2 product in OpenShift. Afterwards, please get an understanding of how Carbon Clustering works, and check the existing Membership scheme for Kubernetes [2].
