I seem to have a .pom which properly builds everything that Xalan needs.
What it *doesn't* yet do is separate Xalan from Serializer. The recommended approach seems to be to have a .pom per jar/module, and then have an aggregator .pom above them which provides a single-invocation build (and which may provide some common configuration to the module .poms.) Starting to investigate that now.
I should probably start a fork for this, since it's starting to look like it might actually work.
