And the site files _were_ intended to be used to maintain the Apache website, of course; it may be easier/safer to ship them as zip file, unpack into a new directory there, and move the pointer. (I honestly don't remember our past process for updating that.) However, generating Maven artifacts for improved ease of use from IDEs certainly seems useful. I'm out of date enough that this didn't occur to me. "The worst you can call it is harmless." So my inclination at this moment is to say go for it.
