I have done a bit more research on text:id (and other IDs) as they are
handled in OpenOffice. Most of the ID attributes are used for specific
features in the OpenOffice applications, so that it would not make much
sense to use them to store any IDs of your own. There is no way telling
whether the application will preserve them or leave them unmodified in
any way you expect. This is also not required by the OpenDocument
specification.
Now, is support for something like xml:id needed on somne or all elements?
The use-case of identifying a certain paragrahp or a certain portion of
the document can be addressed with bookmarks in OpenDocument.
If there were to be support for something like xml:id, how should the
user be able to interact with it? Should the user notice at all? And
again, what can be done with xml:id whats not available now with
text:bookmark. I assume that the syntactic question of one being an
element and the other being an attribut could be set aside.

From a pure XML perspective, I would think that this would be a good
thing to do. I am not sure about the implications for the application in
general...

OpenOffice would not be able to preserve xml:id attributes.
Would that be worth revisiting in the future Lars?
