Globally declared styles (the ones on the drop-down menu at the top left 
in OpenOffice.org) go into the styles.xml file.

Styles that are created by, say, selecting a group of words and making 
them bold and italic, are "local styles" that aren't given a specific 
name, and those go into the content.xml file.

There already are some projects underway. There is a (broken) link at 
opendocumentfellowship.org to their conversion. A previous version of the 
stylesheet is at http://books.evc-cit.info/odf_utils
