I fully agree on this, it is often quite helpful to take a look into the source code.

One of the biggest problem in doing so, is to find the implementing source code to review, as OpenOffice.org is quite a handsome project.

There is a wonderful online tool for this purpose:

In addition you might use the regview tool from the SDK to view the <OFFICE_INST>/program/services.rdb for library and implementation names of services implemented in the office.
