Hello,

The reason why -Xmx768M prevented the filters to be run / the
JRE to be started, was apparently that this amount was too high.

The same amount is accepted when Java is launched from the
command line on the same machine, but I guess that when it is
launched from within OOo, the maximum amount of memory needs to
be inferior to the total available memory available to OOo
(whatever that is).

Anyway, I was able to solve the problem by using -Xmx256M
that allows even very big documents (800+ pages) to be processed
by my filters.
