Cliff (& XMLBeans PMC)--
Hey; just for the sake of completeness, I'll explain the status of Beehive 1.0 relative to
XMLBeans. Basically, Beehive has broken its binary dependency on XMLBeans for our 1.0.
Let me explain why...in 1.0, Beehive is shipping three major parts -- NetUI, Controls, and the
JDBC / JMS / EJB System Controls. Since the Web Service Metadata part hasn't passed the JSR 181 TCK
yet, we're not shipping it with 1.0.
Thus, for 1.0, our use of XMLBeans was purely for internal XML parsing and schema validation.
We've not removed any of our NetUI or JdbcControl integration code, so these features will still
work in the presence of XMLBeans and JSR 173 API JARs. We just don't include these JARs in the box.
Questions / comments / flames welcome. :)

Below is what I'm planning to submit to the Board as the XMLBeans
quarterly status report. I'll check-in something tonight (EDT).
Please let me know if you have any corrections/additions by then or
even if you do within the next 52 hours or so (before the next Board
meeting Wednesday 1000 PDT).
Thanks,

Chair, XMLBeans PMC
XMLBeans Status report for July-September 2005
1. Added a new committer: Yana Kadiyska, a long time contributor to XMLBeans
2. Added a new PMC member: Radu Preotiuc-Pietro, who has been a
committer for several months. There are now nine PMC members.
3. Discussed concerns about the licensing of the JSR-173 RI, on which
XMLBeans currrently depends. The RI was licensed by BEA, under terms
that they thought would be compatible with ASF distributions. Members
of the PMC raised the issue with BEA, and they are now investigating
options to relicense it. Until that happens, this remains an open
issue that is also holding up Apache Beehive's v1.0 release (since
Beehive currently depends on XMLBeans).
