Neil, It seems you are using a later version of Saxon-B. The XMLBeans 2.2.0 documentation does suggest that one uses Saxon-B 8.6.1. for XPath/XQuery support. Saxon 8.8, I noticed, has done away with the said method, which is what I suspect you are using.
