That should be possible, but how you do it might depend upon whether you want to debug Zeppelin UI/server code or Zeppelin Spark interpreter code. Then again, the same environment variable (ZEPPELIN_JAVA_OPTS is I think what you want) might affect both anyway. What happens if you set ZEPPELIN_JAVA_OPTS="-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=y,address=1044" in zeppelin-env.sh then restart the server?
