Yes, it's native VS project files.

We will clean this up and look to have a patch for everyone next week sometime.

I'd suggest that you contribute the changes and then the community can
work on refactoring/changing the tests to verify windows in addition
to current unix support. I'm assuming that the changes you have made
will fit into this model - ie that the existing tests still pass on
unix.

What are you doing for build env? Native VS project files?
