Yeah, I was trying to get servers without the patch to reject the message
because of the message size, but only later I realized that they won't get
notifications back from servers that are not looking if they don't process the
notifications.
I'm moving back to the initial suggestion of sending the version as the last
field of the message, it seems to be the simplest solution and works fine.
