Yeah that's unfortunate. ZOOKEEPER-1045 creates some divergences between
3.5/3.4 and master but I believe that's manageable. The reason this patch is
not landed in master is because it's not planned - I think our priority (per
discussion on security list) at the moment is to unblock next 3.5 release and
master is not in the scope (we would not have a near release based on master
branch). And there are still unfinished work items related to this (such as
making reconfig work with this feature), which occupies part of my bandwidth.
If someone would like to help port ZOOKEEPER-1045 to master branch that'll be
great - otherwise I'll take a stab after I clear my work queue.
