This is originally based on the patch provided by @hanm at https://github.com/apache/zookeeper/pull/1492. We have been using this in production for over a year for backing up both snapshots, transaction logs, and timetable metadata (for restoration from backup). We run a dedicated Observer node for backup. Sending out an email per @eoliveli 's suggestion. Thanks, Hunter
