You seem to use two languages. Have you validated the page for the second language after you deleted the field?
BTW: it seems that there is a little bug. If you have a container with a file field available in two languages, each file field pointing towards the same DAV file. If you delete the container in one language, it disappear in the other language and you are then no more able to validate the page only in the first language (the icon stays red - you need to validate the page in all languages).
(tested on the box on the home page of the jahia.org online demo)
