Yes the approach is correct. Also look at the routing services to see how we allow connection to multiple user and group providers at the same time.

The interfaces shouldn't change much, as they haven't in quite some time. The implementations will change because we are constantly improving the LDAP connector.

You will also want to look at our valve mechanism for authentification plugins. It is present in org.jahia.params.valves
