I'm currently in the process of updating image assets to work on Retina screens. I'd say I'm about half way done and have quite a bit of work ready to commit. Robby has also sent an E-mail to Bogdan seeing if he'd be willing to update his toolbar icons to Retina.
It would be nice to make 1.6 a "Retina-ready" release seeing how the majority of images will be updated anyway, so fixing the remaining small issues would be great also. As far as the remaining tickets go, I'd say the preference redesign is a big enough addition to release asap rather than having a nice addition just sitting there. So getting any regressions fixed regarding the new preferences (#16068 being a big one), and possibly getting the app as retina-ready as possible seems like a nice logical step forward imo.
