Based on Pierre's advice, I deleted the edk2 directory that I had been using and ran the git clone of edk2 again, ,also used the master branch to specify the latest commit as of yesterday. I also took Sami's advice and specified Python 3.7. Under these conditions, the build finished successfully without any problems. Thank you very much for your help.
