Subject: Data Coding Scheme...
> Hi Everyone!
> The dcs spec 3.38 lists some of the data coding schemes but I have some
questions..
> 1) Is it mandatory for any SMSC to support all the DCSchemes?
SMSC's shouldn't interpret DCS field (That's why I'm pissed with Siemens
M20)
> 2)Is this specification protocol specific meaning to say if a protocol can
have
> a dcs specific to it apart from that specified in the 3.38 spec?
I think there is smsc protocols that accept a dcs different from spec. It
shouldn't
happen (it's like "I love standards, there's so many to choose")
> 3)Does the handset have the capability to send a message in a more than
one dcs format to the SMSC?
It's in the standard, so the handsets could be smart and use it. Nokia, for
example, use 8BIT to send picture messages
just like we use to send them from application to handset. If the handset
wants, he could use other options from
DCS (or from the standard).
There's applications (at least) form Palm Pilot that sends nokia smart
messages, flash messages, unicode, etc through
infrared and a mobile. Technically, it's as if was sent by the modem.
> 6)How many dcs does kannel support and can anyone give me the source code
for it?...Thanks in advance:-)
Look at latest CVS. As decided in the list, kannel should not be set dcs
directly by the user, but user can as specific
things about it now. Like coding (Data Coding - 7/8 bit or UCS2), class
(Message Class (flash, mobile, sim, simtooklit),
I'm now gonna see what to do with this kind of messages when received from
mobile to applications...
