Hi, An example would be an SMS aggregator (a virtual SMSC) that provides a http interface to their system. There are a number of companies that provide a http interface for sending SMS messages and a company may wish to connect to one of these systems. I can't think of any of these offhand but I am sure a web search would find you some.
