if you can send HTTP requests from Kannel to the target HTTP servers
anyway, then you should (for god's sake) forget Openwave.

But I suppose the openwave gw is the only "way out" (firewall
settings) for the WAP requests?! 

I suppose it _is_ possible to use Kannel as WSP layer proxy, but there
is no code currently in there to support this.
