Using my patches (http://kannelrelease.sourceforge.net/), Ericsson, Wavecom and other modems are known to work very close to 100% for concurrent send/receive. The majority of losses occur when the modem retries to send the maximum number of times, by stops after that, assuming no network coverage, dud mobile number to send to or something like that. Failures are now logged and will soon have notification built in.
