The log doesnt show anything special.
There are incoming messages. The modem does announce it to kannel by
sending AT+CMT and a line containing the data.
Kannel then aknowledges it with AT+CNMA correctly. That frees the
device up to receive further messages. The only thing I would see is
if kannel would not send AT+CNMA and thus the modem would be in "stop
and wait" mode.

Kannel: ok, got it.

etc.

There's a message.

Kannel: ok, got it.
no further communication.

if it stops here and nothing comes through anymore, its the device
who considers the computer not to be connected anymore or so.
Maybe your device has a weak powersupply and does reset from time to
time? Maybe your serial cable has interfearance from the radio
network?

If you say that the messages are stored on the SIM and at switchon
they get delivered to kannel, this can not be. if they get stored on
SIM card, then you have to actively go and pull for the messages. at2
driver doesnt do that. One scenario is however if the SMSC stops
sending the message to the phone. This happens for example if the
phone is signalling upwards that there is not enough space on the SIM
card. Or if you send thousand messages to the phone then you will get
on to a blacklist on the SMSC.

Frankly I believe you either have a device which has a problem or
your GSM network has a problem.
