I guess yes. I'm no lawyer too, but I'd like to go this way.

WapIT assets have been managed by finish lawyers that tried to sell
things. Since WapIT does no longer exist and the finish lawyers don't
have a chance to commercialice the software, I'm sure we can "change"
the lincense for the time *after* WapIT.

Which means the license is keept the same up to the point where WapIT
was existing and we are transfering the intelectual properties of the
code to the Kannel Group because we are the one who contributed code
after bankcrupcy of WapIT.

So IMO this is a valid option.

Simple. WapIT is no longer existing. So other companies (I know from
one case in Finnland, not to be named; mabe even in Switzerland ;) hay
pick up the software and sell it as there commercial asset. Which is
not ok, IMO. So the Kannel Group is the intelectual property holder
and therefore should be stated in the license. This will enfore other
companies that like our open BSD-style license and use Kannel in
commercial products to obey the license rules.
