WAP 2.0 is a set of standards that includes the old 1.x versions. However, the WAP protocol suit (e.g. WDP/WTP/WSP) and WML/WMLScript are basically deprecated. What you are probably referring to is WTCP + xHTML Mobile Profile. You don't need a Gateway for these.
