I know, but if you pay per minute for the connection, than "keepalive" is not an option. If you just send some messages in a bursty pattern, than its perfectly OK to login on demand. In this case you have to logout of the SMSC before the physical connection drops. If the logical connection is still active when the physical connection is gone, than one cannot relogin and gets the error message the original poster reported until the logical connection times out as well.
