you are highly welcome to implement odbc things for kannel ;) but I can't undestand what is the problem with Kannel license (Apache/BSD like) and mysqlclient (GPL)?
see here: http://www.mysql.com/products/licensing.html Quote: For those developing open source applications, the Open Source License allows you to offer your software under an open source / free software license to all who wish to use, modify, and distribute it freely. The Open Source License allows you to use the software at no charge under the condition that if you use MySQL in an application you redistribute, the complete source code for your application must be available and freely redistributable under reasonable conditions. MySQL AB bases its interpretation of the GPL on the Free Software Foundation's Frequently Asked Questions. For more information on MySQL's Open Source License, click here. that is applicable for kannel project (kannel.org). But if a company will sale kannel based product as closed source and with mysql support , then it's fair to buy Commercial license (because a company makes money, none software is for free!)...
