Well, many (most, even--Debian stable still uses 3.23) people out there will still be using pre-4.1 versions of MySQL, so there's no immediate need to do anything drastic, besides perhaps saying "the MySQL support is not intended to be used with the MySQL 4.1 client libraries." The FSF's advice (see google.as/groups?selm=653b7547.0311222346.b4d9e98%40posting.google.com for a possibly negative interpretation thereof) is that if you're linking against, or intend only to link against a GPL'ed library, the resulting whole cannot be made proprietary. I think the OBDC idea is the best one I've seen.
