alternative for sendsms

Is there any other way to push MT sms besides sendsms. I can 
see docs for posts but there is no example how to do the POST. 
Is it enough to do "POST / HTTP/1.0" ?  I have a problem 
sending UTF-16BE sms. A 76 char get request can easily reach 
350 bytes.
